Event Description:
The Ottawa Valley Chapter's Student Activities, Young Engineers in ASHRAE, and History Committees would like to invite everyone to a rare behind-the-scenes technical tour of the Ingenium Collections and Conservation Centre, a state-of-the-art facility designed to preserve Canada’s most delicate and historic science and technology collection. The Canada Science and Technology Museum displays only 12% of Ingenium's collection, whereas the Ingenium Collections and Conservation Centre houses most of the remaining artifacts.
Led by Adrianne Mitani (Smith+Andersen), the project's lead engineer, this tour will explore the design and implementation of advanced HVAC systems and technologies used to maintain tightly controlled environmental conditions. Along the way, you’ll encounter fascinating artifacts ranging from historic trains and nuclear reactors to plant seeds and early HVAC instruments like anemometers.
This is a unique opportunity to hear directly from the engineer behind the design while experiencing a facility rarely accessible to the public. Limited spots are available. Any profits made from this event will be donated to the Ingenium Foundation and to Actua, a Canadian STEM youth-outreach non-profit organization.
Please arrive promptly at 3:30pm to ensure you depart with the rest of the tour! The tour will begin at 4pm sharp. Non-member guests are welcome.
